- This file contains important information that was not included in the
- MagicScan User's Guide file. It is divided into several sections: System
- Requirements, Installation Procedures, Supported Scanners, Limitations,
- Note.

- System Requirements
- * System 7 or later
- * If you use PhotoShop 3.0 or later, set PhotoShop's preferred memory
- size to 12MB(68K)/24MB(PPC) or more using the file--Get Info command.
- * If you use MagicScan DA, set MagicScan DA's preferred memory size to
- 6MB or more using File--Get Info command.
- * If you use PhotoPerfect, set PhotoPerfect's preferred memory size to
- 12MB or more using File--Get Info command.

- Installation Procedures
- Make sure PhotoShop is installed first, if you have not yet installed it,
- before installing MagicScan.

- Follow the steps below to install MagicScan:

- 1. Double-click on the MagicScan Installer icon.
- 2. Follow the on-screen instructions to install MagicScan.
- Please note that:
- * If you choose Easy Install, the UMAXShare and UMAXChooser won't be
- installed.
- * When a dialog box prompts you to select the plug-ins folder, select
- the Plug-ins folder in PhotoShop. The MagicScan plug-in driver
- should be stored in the folder you select in this dialog box.
- 3. After installation, restart your Macintosh. A new folder containing
- the MagicScan software is created. To know how to use MagicScan,
- refer to your MagicScan User's Guide for detailed information.

- Note: If you cannot install MagicScan from a CD-ROM, open the MagicScan
- Disk Folder and select the folders designated MagicScan Disk 1
- thru MagicScan Disk 9 in that order. These folders represent
- floppies. Access the MagicScan Disk Folder and copy the contents
- of each folder onto separate diskettes.
- The contents of each folder, MagicScan Disk 1 thru MagicScan Disk
- 9, contain exactly the right amount of data for one floppy
- diskette.

- Note: If you find the MagicScan plug-in driver is located in the
- MagicScan 4.0 folder, you need yo drag the MagicScan plug-in
- driver to PhotoShop's Plug-ins folder.

- Supported Scanners
- * Power Look 2000, Mirage II, Mirage IIse, Mirage D-16L, PowerLook II,
- Power Look, Gemini D-16, Power Look 3000, PowerLook III
- * Other scanner models must be controlled using MagicScan 1.0 Retail
- version (or later), VistaScan 1.0(or later).

- Limitations
- When using the Multiple Scan or Batch Scan mode, all scans must be from
- the same physical scanner (regardless of the number of scanners connected
- to the computer).

- Notes
- 1. Remove 'UMAXShare' file from the Extensions folder under System
- Folder if you have serious problems using a remote scanner through
- network.

- 2. For non-network users, remove 'UMAXShare' file from the Extensions
- folder under System Folder in order to increase MagicScan's
- performance.

- 3. If UMAXShare is updated, all Macintosh machines on the same network
- must be updated as well for remote scanner access. At present
- Macintosh to PC access is not supported.

- 4. Before installing OmniPage, make sure you have the Apple Compatible
- driver installed. Select "Support Apple Compatible Scanner" while
- installing OmniPage. After installation, choose "Apple Scan" from
- Chooser.

- 5. When the Selection Area marquee and the Preview Frame overlap, place
- the cusor within the Preview Frame, press the Option key and drag so
- that the whole Preview Frame moves. To change the size and shape of
- the Preview Frame, press the Option key and drag on an edge or
- corner to stretch or contract the Preview Frame. Dragging without the
- Option key pressedwill move the Selection Area marquee if the cursor
- is within the slection frame or stretch the Selection Area marquee if
- the cursor is on the marquee border.
